The Circus Shop, a Petoskey landmark Despite the fact that there were eight other stores throughout Petoskey that carried clothing in 1946, Edna Danser opened The Circus Shop in direct competition with those businesses. She felt she had something to offer that was not yet in Petoskey: personal service and true quality and originality at affordable prices.
As a life-long resident of Petoskey, Lynn has seen many changes in both the town and in her business. She says that before the big box stores began moving into Northern Michigan, Petoskey was the shopping headquarters for a large geographical area. At that time, she carried all kinds of clothing in a large selection of sizes and at all price points so that everyone could find something wonderful in their budget. But when those big box stores came to Northern Michigan, Lynn realized she had to specialize.
When you visit The Circus Shop on Mitchell Street, be sure to bring a child and your camera. Many years ago a local artist by the name of Ray Lewis created the circus-themed decorations that adorn the store. There also is a Merry-Go-Round horse that has been in the store since 1946; The Circus Shops littlest patrons are invited to ride. After 61 years in business, The Circus Shop is a Petoskey landmark, and Lynn and Marnie welcome you to visit and find all the things you are looking for: quality; beautiful, unique things; and excellent, old-fashioned service. The Circus Shop is located at 323 E. Mitchell Street, 231-347-3433, and online at www.greatlittleshops.com. |
